Our Mission: put a smile on every baby's face.
Our company's mission is very simple, put a smile on every baby's face. This is because we strongly believe that babies develop both physically and mentally best when they are happy and content, and when babies are happy, parents are happy, and that makes us happy. ^_^
About the Founder
Baby Spa by Aqua Play is founded by Mei Chen, who has over 15 years of experience working with children of all ages. Starting from working as a part time staff at Los Angeles Children's Museum in 1997, Mei discovered the joy of learning and playing alongside children. Throughout her professional career, she has volunteered and taught K-12 Discover-E (www.discovere.org) classes in the school district of San Jose, California. In 2009, she moved to Hong Kong and continued her passion for child education and development through non-profit organizations such as U-Hearts 兩地一心 (www.u-hearts.org) and Society for Community Organization 香港社區組織協會 (http://www.soco.org.hk).
Every year, Mei would make her vacation plans months in advance, not to Paris or London, but to the most remote and poor areas of China to volunteer and teach children. This included visits to the Love Farm Orphanage in Guizhou, where the ethnic minority population still makes less than $.40 US cents per day per person, and the Mianyang Orphanage that is home to victims of the 2008 Sichuan earthquake.
“It is extremely rewarding to take what you know and offer these skills and talents to those in need,” says Mei, in an alumnus feature article published by Carnegie Mellon University where she got her Master’s degree. Though Mei has many qualifications, it is her role as a mother of a 1 year old baby boy that makes her the heart and soul of Baby Spa. Mei first discovered this unique way of baby swimming and exercising while vacationing in Singapore.
“I’ve always known baby massage to have many good health benefits, but combined with swimming?! Genius! Of course babies love it; they can enjoy the warmth and freedom of movement similar to how it was inside Mommy’s womb,” exclaimed Mei.
Seeing the joy on her baby boy’s face while he enjoyed the baby massage and swimming experience was one of the most memorable moments of motherhood. After more research and a few more swim sessions, she’s so convinced of the physical and psychological benefits of baby swimming that she decided to bring the idea to Hong Kong, hence the birth of Baby Spa by Aqua Play.
Mei would love to hear from fellow Moms and Educators, and well, just about anyone who's interested in Baby Spa. Please feel free to email her with questions and comments at hkbabyspa@gmail.com, and don’t forget to ask her for special discounts!
